Tatapouri by the Sea is situated on a 3.8ha block of land and includes the site of the former Tatapouri Hotel which was destroyed by fire in 1996, and earlier hit by a tsunami in 1947. It has always been the stop-off point on the old East Coast coach road for workers and travellers, and the original building burned down in 1926.
Tatapouri is only 10 minutes from Gisborne giving you the convenience of this vibrant city, its shops and attractions yet when you stay with us, you a million miles from anywhere. The wild life here is fantastic with the occasional sightings of penguins, seals, dolphins, whales and many different types of sea birds.
